It's the 3rd annual Bi-Rite x Bittman California Citrus Experience Box
If there’s such thing as a box full of sunshine, this is it: The Bi-Rite x Bittman California Citrus Experience Box is back.
A number of you have been asking when we’d bring back our citrus box, and the time has come. It’s the one ingredient that makes me look forward to winter — and I’m guessing you share my excitement. When it’s in season, which is now, it’s as glorious as any summer fruit.
That said, day in, day out, most of us in the Northeast are getting citrus grown on a large-scale, bred not for flavor but for shelf-life and yield. Now, through Bi-Rite Market, the wonderful grocery stores in San Francisco’s Mission and Western Addition neighborhoods, we can get the good stuff.
It all started three years ago, when I called my friend Sam Mogannam, founder of Bi-Rite Market, to ask if we could try to figure out a way to fill a pre-paid USPS shipping box with citrus and send it to my house. It was a big ask, but totally doable. I loved it so much, I wanted us all to enjoy it — and Sam made it happen.
This year’s Bi-Rite x Bittman California Citrus Experience Box — its actual name — will include peak season varietals such as lemons, limes, oranges, kumquats and more, for $80, plus shipping. The 10- to 12-pound box is hand-picked and hand-packed by Bi-Rite’s produce team. You can order here or click on the box below.
Here’s what else you’ll need to know: This citrus box is only available through mid-February, depending on availability. Orders placed by Thursday 5 p.m. PST will ship the following Monday or Tuesday. And orders placed between Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 will ship the week of Jan. 10.
We hope you’re as excited about this year’s citrus season as we are. Join us as we look ahead to how we’ll be using it in our kitchens.

Too bad we can’t receive in Canada. Product certainly SOUNDS wonderful. Any suggestions ?
My second year splurging on this citrus box - the flavors are amazing! Unlike ANY citrus we can buy here in Northwestern Michigan at any time. Box was mostly varieties of tasty mandarins as mentioned by others but I’m definitely a fan now, beautiful Meyer lemons and Cara Cara oranges. Enjoy the packaging and that everything was labeled this year is much appreciated. Brightens my January - hope that next year I will finally get grapefruit in the selection.
